Travel & Logistics

We’re so excited to see you in Vietnam! As part of your travel planning, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance that covers your booking for unforeseen events and interruptions of your trip. We also suggest purchasing refundable fights or flight protection.

Arrival in Hanoi

Hanoi is Vietnam’s capital city, located in the northern part of the country on the Red River. Be sure to set your clocks—in Vietnam, you’re on Indochina Time (ICT), which is +14 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, +7 hours ahead of GMT / UTC.

Trip Start

We will meet at 8:30am on Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Hotel de l’Opera in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Arrival Airport

The best airport to fly into is the Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)—a 35-minute drive from our hotel. Numerous direct flights serve Hanoi's airport from across Asia; from the USA, there are currently no scheduled direct flights, only frequent connections via major hubs including Seoul, Hong Kong, and Taipei. From the US, the journey should take you between 18-20 hours.

We recommend arriving at least one full day prior to the start of your trip in the case of unforeseen circumstances or travel delays. You will most likely start your travel on October 9 to account for the time difference. For information on where to stay the night before, see the following Pre-Arrival Accommodations section.

Transfer from Airport

Private transportation is available from HAN airport to your hotel through the concierge at the Hotel de l’Opera no more than 30 days ahead of your arrival. Contact Hotel de l’Opera’s concierge desk directly to arrange.

Alternatively, you can arrange your own taxi upon arrival. Metered taxis are available on the arrivals level at both Domestic and International terminals. Taxi fare is charged according to the taxi meter, and takes 30-40 minutes to the city center. The cost is approximately 320,000 VND (approx. US$15). For more information, please visit the HAN airport website.

Pre-Arrival Accommodations

We stay in unique, in-demand hotels on this trip—rooms go fast and daily rates change frequently. If you plan to arrive in Hanoi prior to the beginning of our journey, we recommend staying at Hotel de l’Opera, which is our hotel while in Hanoi and also our meeting spot on Day One. Please contact the hotel directly to book. If they are booked, we also recommend the Chi Boutique Hotel or the Maison d'Orient, pleasant boutique hotels conveniently located in the old quarter.

Departure from Hoi An

We end our trip—after a week of exploration, connection, and delicious food and drink—at the Hotel Royal in Hoi An on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

Departure Airport

We recommend booking your outbound flights from Da Nang International Airport (DAD)—about an hour drive from the hotel. This is a different airport from the one we begin at, so make sure to book your outbound flights correctly.

Transfer to Airport

After breakfast on our last day, Modern Adventure will provide multiple group transfers to DAD based on flight times. Your flight home can be scheduled to depart at any time on this day.

If you are planning on extending your time in Vietnam, it is your responsibility to arrange alternative transportation from our Hoi An hotel to the Da Nang airport. Please arrange your taxi at least five days in advance by contacting the Hotel Royal directly. Let them know you are traveling with Modern Adventure.

Post-Trip Accommodations

We hope you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Vietnam. If so, we recommend staying at our hotel, the Hotel Royal Hoi An. Please note that any post-trip accommodations are your responsibility to book, and reservations can be made directly by contacting the hotel.

If Hotel Royal is full, consider staying at Anio Boutique Hotel or Lavini Hoi An Boutique Villa.
